Experience

Freelance Journalist. 1993 - present. Write and report articles covering political, environmental and legal topics for magazines, Web sites, and daily and weekly newspapers. Articles have appeared in The LA Times, Financial Times, Outside, Village Voice, Wilderness, Ski Magazine, Powder Magazine, Rails to Trails, Hooked on the Outdoors, American Lawyer Media and SF Weekly, among others.

Freelance Historian. Research, write and conduct interviews for textbook and oral history projects. Oral history clients have included the Rocky Flats Cold War Museum, the U.S. House of Representatives Office of the Legislative Counsel and the U.S. 10th Circuit District Court. Wrote a series of Presidential Administration Profiles for a high school reference book published by Gale Research. Produced essays and a reading series to accompany Ken Burns’ 1996 public television documentary, "The West" for the American Library Association. Other ventures have included an oral history project in Nepal and a cultural history of Roswell, New Mexico.

Freelance Editor. Projects include both substantive editing and copy editing. Clients include Colorado Homes and Lifestyles Magazine (copy editor), Seule Magazine (contributing editor), the Wilderness Society (editing science and policy reports), International Mountain Explorer’s Connection (editing, researching and writing their print and online newsletter) and Gale Research (editing their "Information Plus" reference books).

Kangchenjunga School Project. 1995 - present. Volunteer for a non-profit organization working with native and refugee populations in northeastern Nepal. Activities include public health work, Web site production, and an ongoing project collecting Tibetan folk tales and creating children’s books for local schools.

iXL-Denver. Denver, CO. December 1998 - January 2001. Writer. In-house lead writer for an interactive services agency producing Web sites and multimedia strategies for large businesses and dot-coms. Duties included developing creative content for client Web sites, writing and editing copy and producing banner ads.

American Lawyer Media, Inc. San Francisco, CA. 1994-1995. Reporter. Covered public interest law, law firm business, and the California State Bar for The Recorder, a newspaper published by the American Lawyer.
