Hannah received a Masters degree in History of the American West and Environmental History from the University of Colorado. Since 1996, she has complemented her work as a journalist with freelance historical research and writing.

Current Projects Include:

  • Kangchenjunga School Project - The Tibetan Children's Book Project involves ongoing volunteer work creating children's books from interviews conducted with Tibetan refugees in Nepal. Books will be distributed in 2004.

  • Rocky Flats Cold War Museum - Currently coordinating an extensive list of oral histories for the planned museum at the site of the controversial nuclear weapons plant outside of Boulder, Colorado. Duties include developing interview questions and methods and conducting video interviews with numerous former employees, protesters, regulators, and others involved in the battles over the plant.

Past historical research and writing clients have included:

  • Gale Research Presidential Administration Profiles for Students - Researched and wrote profiles of Presidents Clinton, Bush, Carter, McKinley and Buchanan for a high school reference book.

  • American Library Association - Assisted University of Colorado professor Patricia Nelson Limerick in creating a reading and essay series that accompanied Ken Burns’ 1996 public television documentary, "The West."

Past oral history projects have included:

  • U.S. House Office of the Legislative Counsel - Conducted interviews with current and former employees of the legislative drafting office for the U.S. House of Representatives.

  • U.S. 10th Circuit District Court - Conducted interviews with retired federal judges in Denver.

  • Roswell, New Mexico - Conducted oral history interviews with Roswell residents as part of a University of Colorado Masters thesis exploring Roswell's Cold War history (the town was once home to the world's largest Strategic Air Command base). The thesis examined how attitudes toward the government changed between 1947, when the Roswell Army Air Field recovered a "flying saucer," and 1997, when Roswell's desert air was thick with accusations of cover-up and conspiracy.
